Lily DeCort headshot

Lily DeCort is an Ethiopian American painter. She was born in Addis Ababa and is based in Chicago. The rich liminality of her experience is reflected in each of her paintings, ranging from luminous landscapes to evocative abstracts.

On Lily’s canvases, dark skies stream with brilliant light. Peaceful paths wind through thick forests. Lone vessels journey across vast waters. The human person rises up through the practice of listening and braces under the weight of burnout.

Lily’s paintings invite us to see and be seen with fresh eyes. They are windows to beauty and vulnerability, sanctuary and new journeys. We behold the mysterious spectrum of the human experience — from childlike wonder to devastating loss and hope reborn. These are works of contemplation, love, and healing.

Lily’s paintings have been published in BitterSweet Monthly, Cultivare, Pace: The Practice of Living Slowly, and Stop & Think. They can be found in private collections in the United States, Europe, and East Africa.
